According to Umngeni Water , a hour shut on their raw water conveyance line will be implemented in order to repair a failed scour valve. Without the repair, a full failure of the valve could see the Durban area on water rations for up to two months. The shutdown is planned to start on 25th of February at am and end on 25 February at EThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit will be implementing intermittent closing of strategic reservoir outlets to protect the network systems during the 19 hours and upon recovery of the system. Rand Water is planning a major shutdown that is expected to last for 30 hours , from 1pm on 27 February to 28 February to replace an mm valve and bypass valve. Johannesburg Water has planned to place water tanks to assist when the reservoir levels reach critical levels to minimise the impact.
